Launched by Forinvest Business Angels and the Ecole supérieur du Bois (a college specialized in formations linked with forestry and forests management) on Oct. 21, 2019, La Canopée is the first national innovation contest dedicated entirely to forests and woods. Placed under the high patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, this contest’s goals are to encourage the support innovation in the forest and woods industry, an industry of the future that develops a naturally renewable and modern resource.

La Canopée is intended to businesses and actors in the academic sphere (researchers, teachers, and students) who propose and develop an innovative solution linked to problems in the forest or wood industries.

Three categories are proposed:

The Ideation Grand Prix, intended for students, doctoral students, and researchers, and rewards a theory, thesis, or idea for which the practical application has not yet been demonstrated

The Start Up Grand Prix concerns businesses less than seven years old developing an innovative solution in the process of research and financing

The Enterprise Grand Prix will reward a more established business that comes up with an innovative solution

Innovation includes all steps of the production and extraction, from raw materials to the finished product. Projects are open until the end of December 2019. Finalists will be selected in January and presented in the French cities of Bordeaux, Lyon, Nancy, or Nantes, and will be given the opportunity to present a five minute elevator pitch to convince a jury that their project is the most innovative. The final winners will be announced April 15 in Paris during the International Forum on Wood Construction.
