The event Good France, which takes place March 21st, 2016, is a unique occasion to taste all that French culinary traditions have to offer. It brings together more than one thousand chefs on 5 different continents in a celebration of French gastronomie.

The event takes the form of a special themed dinner in each participating restaurant. The participants pay homage to the world-renowned of French cuisine and its abilities to innovate, the values that it carries – sharing, pleasure, and respect for “eating well.”

In 1912, Auguste Esoffier founded a tradition called “Epicurean Dinners” which featured the same menu on the same day in several cities across the world for a large number of people. Good France follows in the footsteps of this wonderful tradition with a desire to bring together all types of restaurants from across the world.

This international event is the second after the inaugural 2015 Good France celebration, which was started after UNESCO named the French gastronomic meal to its list of immaterial cultural heritage. It is designed to spread this French tradition – inherently integral to French culture – to people right across the globe.

All chefs are invited to participate in the event, and can do so by proposing their restaurant on the Good France site before January 21st. Participating restaurants around the world are not asked to minimize their own culinary traditions for the event, but to join them together with French culinary traditions in a creative cultural mix. Good France requires chefs to follow standards procedures for a French gastronomic meal – for example, a traditional order of presentation. But these basic guidelines allow chefs plenty of room to add their own unique individualized touches to the event.

Good France also puts an emphasis on the good part of the name, by ensuring that meals be healthy (low in fat, sugar and salt), that they’re as locally-sourced as possible, and that people of all economic backgrounds are able to participate.
